Audit for Forest Management Certification conducted

The increasing degradation and deforestation of natural forests remains a global concern. This necessitated change of the status quo through plantation forests. Globally, 277.9 Million Hectares of plantation forests existed by 2015 with over 199 Million Hectares certified for responsible forest management.

Forest management being the core of its business, Busoga Forestry Company Limited (BFC) continues to be part of the certified forests in a bid to meet timber demands while enhancing socio-economic and environmental aspects.

BFC had its 9th surveillance audit for responsible forest management from 28th 30th May 2019. This is an annual monitoring activity aimed at evaluation of continued compliance to the requirements of principles and criteria of responsible forest management. The results of this audit were positive with recommendations for continued certification as has been the case for the last 8 years that the audit has been conducted.

BFC adheres to both National and International standards thus creating human resource to spearhead responsible forest management certifications. Kachung and Bukaleba plantations are part of the 199 million hectares certified globally.
